Sioux Lookout, ON – As the Province of Ontario updates its COVID-19 legislation in the face of surging Omicron variant cases, the Municipality of Sioux Lookout has taken steps to keep in compliance.

This means, as of 12:01 a.m. Sunday, December 19, 2021, a return to 50% capacity limits in a number of indoor public settings, including:

  • Non-spectator areas of facilities used for sports and recreational fitness activities (i.e.: gyms)
  • Indoor recreational amenities

These limits currently do not apply to any portion of a business or place being used for a wedding, funeral, or a religious service, rite, or ceremony.

The Recreation Centre gym once again requires booking appointments as well, to ensure capacity and physical distancing requirements can be met at all times.

On top of the reduced capacity limits, food and drink services are prohibited at sporting events, concert venues, theatres and cinemas, bingo halls, and other gaming establishments.

The Province of Ontario has also reduced the social gathering limits to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.

“With the updated COVID-19 rules the Province has implemented, we will also require proof of vaccination in league sports for all players 12 and older,” explained Manager of Corporate Services, Brian MacKinnon, “even though they were formerly exempt.”

Anyone 18 or older in Ontario is now eligible to receive a COVID booster shot, provided it has been at least 84 days since their second dose.

Also note that effective January 4, 2022, the use of an enhanced COVID-19 vaccine certificate with a QR code and the Verify Ontario app will be required anywhere proof of vaccination is required in the province. This includes Municipal facilities like the Sioux Lookout Memorial Arena.
